Welcome caleb
Caleb: Thank you, Thank you. I'm always glad to be here.
Yofu: The last time we did this we got a lot of good feedback, for example the girl Emma, she said she really enjoyed your last episode and she wants to share her knowledge also. I said it’s welcomed, let's schedule that, and also bello. You guys are so cool. You give everyone a very good start to sharing on Yakihonne’s podcast.
Caleb: That’s great
Yofu: So today we’re live on Nostr, we’re live on the platform called zap.stream, and we welcome everyone.
Yofu: Let’s start with this question What is the role of user experience for product success and market growth?
Caleb: Thank you everybody my name is Caleb and I am a Ux designer, product designer and I also work as a technical writer and document projects.
Today i’ll be talking about the role of user experience in product success and market growth, Firstly, what is user experience? It’s basically how your users feel about your product, how easy is it to use? Is it hard? Do they need to read a manual or guide to use it? User experience is a critical factor in determining the success of any product and its impact on market growth is; a positive user experience leads to user satisfaction which inturn drives user retention and loyalty, basically satisfied users are more likely to become brand advocates and help you promote your product by word of mouth, online reviews which contributes to an organic customer acquisition and market growth.
Secondly a delightful user experience sets a product apart from its competitors because it provides an added advantage and an increased share in the market. Companies that prioritise user experience and constantly deliver exceptional experiences build a strong brand reputation because people tend to trust this product and it gives the users a sense of loyalty. This technique is used to lead and sustain growth in a highly competitive market.
Yofu: Thank you Caleb, How do understanding user needs and pain points help influence product growth.
Caleb: Firstly I'll say the user is king in the product market. One will have to come up with a product that the user will need and will want to use. The pain points of the proposed users are fundamental in developing a product, if your product doesn't solve the pain points of your users, it’s most likely a disaster waiting to happen. I'm sorry. Developing a product that resonates with your target users is the real deal. I think users research techniques, such as surveys, interviews, research, usability testing, persona development provides valuable insight into user behaviour and challenges. By empathising with your users and gaining deep understanding of their motivations and finding out their pain points and unmet needs. You have to incorporate this feedback and ensure you come up with a product that solves these user pain points. For example; what yakihonne is doing right now, asking current users to review certain updates and have taken this feedback and ensuring that the product is worked upon to solve user pain points and needs. I want to give yakihonne a thumbs up for this one. Thanks guys.
Yofu: it is true that we need not develop based on whose ideas, who designed what or how perfect the user interface or product is rather than that we should focus on developing products that users really need, what users really want and what is friendly and better for user experience. How can an optimised user interface improve the conversion rate?
Caleb: Alot of startup worry about this alot, I think an optimised user interface reduces friction in a user’s journey, i’ve been to few stakeholders meeting where i asked the design team, what happens from point A to point B, when there are so many roadblocks before a particular task is achieved in a product it’s usually not a wonderful user experience, so very good conversion rate we have to make it very easy for users to achieve specific tasks, this is done by;
Streamlining your user flow. Eliminating unnecessary steps Providing clear guidance
This makes the user experience intuitive and efficient because a smoother user experience encourages users to complete desired actions such as making a purchase, checking out, subscribing to a service/ newsletter. Whatever actions you want users to take, you have to ensure it is streamlined and ensure that you remove roadblocks in order for actions to be carried out effectively, swiftly and as fast as possible. I think a user-friendly interface instil confidence in users, it fosters trust in the product and brand which further contributes to higher conversion rates and overall business growth.
The basic thing is to ensure that actions are accomplished as fast and effectively as possible, remove roadblocks and ensure the activities are easy to understand so that anybody using the product will do so without having to worry about anything.
Yofu: when we have users' feedback and we’re developing the product better and better. For example yakihonne, we keep updating every week.
Why is continuous improvement in intuitive design essential for product growth?
Caleb: Design is iterative, when facebook started, it was not looking like it is right now, when instagram started it wasn't looking like this, because the user interface and user experience has always been iterated over the lifetime of these products. So when there is continuous improvement and iteration on the design of a particular product it ensures that the product stays in trend because the digital landscape is constantly evolving and user preference changes over time. I had a conversation with friends where we discussed how Facebook had tried to iterate their product to suit each generation that uses their product and have fallen short as the newer generation Gen z’s prefer other platforms like Instagram and snapchat. Constant improvement of product is what will make products gain a very large market share. This is by adopting iterative approaches, Companies can quickly respond to user feedback, market trends and emerging technologies for their product to remain relevant, competitive and appealing to users. Iterative design allows for frequent updates, enhancement and fine tuning features based on real user data. Iterative design should be data driven, this is where the behaviour of your users influences your decisions and ensure that the product evolves to meeting changing user needs resulting in long term user satisfaction and sustained product growth
Yofu: A product cannot stay old school, it needs to catch up with trends no matter the function, feature or the user interface. It's all key to keeping up and updating.
How can a positive user experience create a sustainable competitive advantage?
Caleb: As a user myself, each and everyone of us has used a product, so we all are users. You can agree with me that when you have a very positive experience with a product, you keep going back. One of the very good products I like to use often is Netflix because of its positive user experience. It's so easy to move from sign up to watching a movie, the user journey is very short. A positive user experience creates a sustainable competitive advantage by differentiating a product from its competitors. In a crowded digital spectrum where similar products may offer comparable features a delightful user experience becomes a key differentiator. Users are more likely to choose a product that provides a seamless, enjoyable and efficient experience over alternatives. Satisfied users become product advocates sharing their positive experiences with others which thereby increases product visibility and credibility. A sustainable competitive advantage is forged as a product gains reputation for providing consistent exceptional service and user experience which foster brain loyalty and the product becomes a preferred market choice.
Yofu: it is important to keep improving this competitive advantage
How does user engagement impact brand perception?
Caleb: User engagement plays a vital role in shaping perception. Engaging users captures their attention. When you engage your users you get their attention, it gives out positive emotions and creates a sense of connection with the product and the brand. When users have memorable and enjoyable experiences with your product, they are more likely to attach those positive feelings to the product and brand and also when you have positive interactions it fosters a favourable brand perception which is characterised by trust, authenticity. Engaged users are more inclined to develop brand affinity. They are more likely to refer the product to their friends and family and also vouch for the product, they become loyal customers which positively influence the overall brand image of that particular product.
Yofu: What are the key metrics used to measure Ux success
Caleb: Basically the ones i have used in the past, we have several KPI which are used to measure ux success and gauge the effectiveness of the user experience technique. We also have conversion rates which we can use to track the percentage of users that perform a desired action or task which could range from making a purchase, checking out, subscribing for a service and we could use task success rate which is the percentage of users that complete a particular task within the product. Task measures- time spent in performing specific actions User satisfaction score and also the Net promoter score - which provide overall insight in user sentiment and loyalty towards the product. When you analyse these metrics it enables the company to identify areas for improvement and make data driven decisions from the data they’ve gotten which will be used to better optimise the product.
Yofu: I had to say KPI, let's extend this question because I'm curious, I want to know more about it. What is the difference between measuring the ux success and the product success?
Caleb: They are far apart, if the user experience of your product is positive and users have more affinity to your product and the process likewise is easy. If you have great user experience the product will definitely succeed. If your user experience is Good and easy your product would succeed.
Yofu: yeah i got it. User feedback helps a lot in developing and product growth. How can teams or companies effectively gather user feedback for iterative improvement?
Caleb: surveys which allow companies to gather quantitative data, obtaining insights on user preference, satisfaction and pain points. We also have user interviews and focused groups. I think focus group are very effective as you’re in contact with your actual users because they provide in depth understanding and context for user experiences Usability testing which yakihonne is carrying out right now is wonderful. - observing users as they interact with the product to identify usability issues and opportunities for improvement. Companies can leverage user analytics and user behaviour tracking to gain insights into user interaction and patterns within the product. By combining this data from interviews, focus groups and testing, companies can obtain a comprehensive understanding of user needs enabling them to inform decisions for iterative development.
Yofu: Thank you for the praise for yakihonne, it is helping us alot and I want to thank all of you and more people for joining. You can also write reviews on yakihonne in any language. I was wowed when you open Yakihonne, you see different posts in different languages, Chinese, Japanese, English, French, Spanish, all kinds of languages. Seems we’re the world.
It is important to have this user feedback, for a product to provide a better experience it is very key and important. How does this user-centric culture drive product growth within an organisation?
User-centric culture places user needs and feedback at the forefront of the decision making process. By prioritising the user experience. Companies can ensure that all aspects of the product development aligns with user expectations. When you have regular Ux workshops, training sessions and collaborative discussions. You encourage employees to think empathically towards user needs and. A user centric culture empowers teams to continually seek feedback and analyse data while identifying areas for improvement which will in turn drive growth in a competitive digital landscape. If the team or company embibes user centric culture, it’ll help drive growth.
Yofu: Yakihonne is a user-centric product
Caleb: I definitely agree. I commend yakihonne
Yofu: How does a delightful user experience contribute to customer loyalty?
Caleb: Let me use yakihonne as an example. I visit yakihonne everyday just to see trending articles and read because the team takes our feedback and ensures that it is integrated. I’ll say I'm always the first person to notice a new feature. I just found out today that we’re getting the bookmark feature. A delightful user experience fosters a strong emotional connection with users leading to increase in customer loyalty and advocacy. When users have this positive interaction and very enjoyable experiences it helps them develop a sense of trust and satisfaction with the product. I’m now a loyal user and a brand advocate for yakihonne, I'll be sharing these positive experiences with friends and family. This is good to build strong brands.
Yofu: Really thankful for sharing all of this. It is not only for yakihonne, but for everyone or team building a product. This will be really helpful, the last episode and there more episodes coming. Next week we have Bello will be here to talk about deep learning. That's going to be a series also because my major is in AI, i think i can help on more questions outside the list. Me and Bello may talk for two hours.
Thank you all.
