GM Pokhara. Nepal is supremely underrated. Rode up to this viewpoint cafe for breakfast. 15 minutes of scenic riding to the top, and a big breakfast with two drinks for $3

Interesting

This past week I've enjoyed re-reading Desert Solitaire by Edward Abbey, as my week 42 / book 42 of 2026 (closing in now on a book per week for the year). I first read it 15ish years ago. 10% of it was the same, another 10% I vaguely remember, 10% seemed missing, and the rest was completely new to me haha. Funny how that happens. #bookstr

Judging my how infrequently I type "what the fuck are you doing" these days, I'd say LLMs are improving a lot.

2026 week 41 book 41. A billion years, by Mike Rinder. This was a dark but incredibly gripping read. Just wild. Knowing about Scientology is the ultimate feeling of ‘did I leave the oven on’, crazy it’s still going on. #bookstr

2026 week 40 book 40. The doors of perception by Alduos Huxley. Pretty hard to read and dull if I’m honest. #bookstr

PS I'll be speaking about nostr

GM, my work is done

In a couple of weeks I’ll be back in Nepal climbing. Two peaks in two different regions. I love my day to day life, so will miss being home, but going back to Nepal is always a thrill. Truly an enchanting country. Aside from packing, I’ve been pre acclimatising. ~300 metres each night / 2km a week. That means sleeping in this weird tent a couple weeks 😄

Bullish

nostr is cool as hell. I got a notification (via pulse, a nostr notification service in https://relayk.it), that someone had sent me a message. I then opened https://relayed.chat to see the message and reply. This all happened without a central party. I've been using nostr for a while now, but still every week or so I have a wow moment just marvelling at it. The extra cool part is of course that the services mentioned which I use are services I built and run myself. The participatory aspect of running nostr is a freedom you need to experience to value I think. As if you can't run it yourself, is it really open?

All the fake AI doomers remind of Y2K clowns, they were at least entertaining 😄

Book 38 / week 38, of 2026, still going strong. This week I read ‘wild times’, a great biographical story of an Ozzie’s past few decades making a life in northern Thailand. I’ve stayed at his lodge many times in a lovely corner of the country.

In RelayKit you can see how much space services are taking up. Handy for when your servers about to fall over and you don't know who the culprit is. (eg in this case these dm testing relays bloated to 94GB net) #relaykit

Whistleblowing vibes 😄 Great terminology.

Sadly just deleted Damus. 5GB of disk space which you can’t clear is unacceptable. Hope it can come back from death. Nice memories of that app from some years back. #damus
