Spent 2 hours rose gardening for cash yesterday. Getting too old for that shite. 🫠 I am so sore and I keep finding scratches from those blooming bloodthirsty bastard bushes. The things I do for extra fiat to turn into sats.

Today hubby and I headed to a local spot for some metal detecting. Found nothing worth diffing for but we are still practicing. The next couple weekends we plan to head for the beaches, now that the tourists will head home.

Every single working American should switch to 'tax exempt' with payroll. Then bombard the IRS and States with to-the-penny compliant payments on April 1st. Totally normal over-coffee thoughts. Still going to try to make it a good day on little sleep and lots of coffee. I'm getting a little old for this insomnia stuff.🥱

I sometimes see quite a bit of 'descendants do not matter' discourse. 'They'll have toes like yours' kind of stuff. I find it puzzling. Are your family genetics weak? Is your family tree hiding a secret branch? I look exactly like the great aunt I was named for and I am aging like her as well. Family lore is she was the spitting image of her great-grandmother. It would not surprise me if our personalities were similar. My sister resembles a great-aunt on the other side of the family. It seems ungrateful to not appreciate your ancestors enough to carry on the family line and to not do all you can to ensure they will live a better life. Anyway, deep thoughts over Friday morning coffee is how I avoid thinking about all the drunken monkeys on today's work schedule. 🙃 It's going to be a great day to be alive, regardless.

I have to cram five days of work into three days. 😁 Maybe it's mental but I love doing that. Every once in a while you have to remind the boss why he gives you such generous bonuses. Have to break the habit of looking at the news over morning coffee.😳 Instead I think I'll keep my focus on the things within my grasp and fire up the YouTubeUniversity. I'm trying to relearn to sew. Skills you don't use are skills you start to lose. Had to pack away the machine again to make room for life but one day I'm going to have the space I need.

A busy weekend of prepping the RV for camping lies ahead. There will be fire, snacks, lots of work and cleaning, and then perhaps a Scrabble or Cribbage battle over burgers tonight. 😁 It's going to be great, a needed break from a really weird work week. Show me your camping/outdoor pics! We'll be headed to a pond in a few weeks. Small fish and too many people but with still secluded little pockets we get tucked into to get some fish to fry.

I regret buying quail eggs to try. OMG so tasty. Creamy and rich and freaking tiny. Takes 8 of them to make breakfast. Now I really wish I could raise my own quail. I can't afford to buy as many of these as I'd like to eat. No pic cuz I et 'em already. 🥚 😋

Stormy, dark, and sleepy Friday. Thankfully Boss is out of office today so I can just review client arrest videos. It's a sadly repetitive task because the people cops encounter are often terribly predictable. And impaired.

Which reminds me, it's also Shut the Fuck Up Friday. I sound like these two while clients are trying, on video, to plead their case while being arrested. Do not do that. Shut the fuck up.

Just gonna turn on all the lights and pretend it's a sunny day outside while I bop around in my little apartment. Today we are salvaging towels with frayed edges and making new scrunchies. But first, coffee. Then I have to rearrange my entire room to create a space for the sewing machine. It's a pain to set up so once it's out, the sewing goes all day. I'm hoping my patch-it-up pile will be gone by tonight. Hopefully this leaves me no time to doom-scroll today. 🫣

Hope everyone else has a day free of car troubles. My little VW is finally falling apart. For the third time a window has jumped the track and is inside the door. Both rocker panels rusting. I've known it was about done but Spring in Maine is not the season for drafty driving. So I have been used car shopping and it is draining my will to live. I've always hated it but the prices are now actually insane. $8-10,000 for cars that have 100,000 and more miles on them is bat-crap crazy. Not looking forward to driving over an hour, one way, to New Hampshire today. Hopefully their little cars aren't rust buckets and I can bring one home. It's a small, family run lot so maybe I'll try to talk them into taking BTC instead of fiat ... 🤔

Seeing a lot of doom and gloom about Nostr. It seems like some were expected an unending influx of users. But that's not how humans work. Once they have found a thing and gotten comfy with it, it takes an awful lot to make them choose to use a new thing. Nostr is not even a new SM site but a whole new and foreign way of doing SM. Few people want to risk looking foolish or dumb figuring out The New so they stick with what they know. I'm okay with Nostr not growing too quickly. Maybe spaces made to draw in 'everyone' is a mistake.

Anyway, I get to review arrest videos at work today. Wish I could share details because honestly, smart and capable people do not quite understand how out of control dumb people's lives can get. Just wildly and terribly out of control. Because they're dumb and make poor choices.

Nothing about yesterday went as planned, as usual. Instead I got a workout clearing the in-laws driveway of debris as they mosey their way back up from Florida. Electric leaf blower is a lot quieter and lighter than the gas but the batteries don't last more than twenty minutes. I enjoy doing yard work more when my arms don't get worn out before the job's done. Hopefully today I am able to tackle housework and catch up on computer tasks during breaks. If you suddenly get a bunch of zaps, I figured it out. Know there was a lot of swearing that went into that zap. Don't forget to do something future you will be grateful you started (free old lady advice of the day). Especially if it's something that's been on the to-do list for an embarrassingly long time.☺️ 🙃

Today we celebrate medical test results that show nothing crazy alarming. Going to trial some supplements, all prayers welcome. Also celebrating having found direct primary care in the past. My Doc is amazing and humble enough to admit when allopathic medicine doesn't offer a solution. He has the resources and knowledge to find supps that aren't full of lead and sawdust too, which is nice. The goal is to be as healthy as possible when I cross that 50 year threshold in a few months. Everything gets so much more difficult as you age, start getting better right now is my advice. It's not easy to practice gratitude on Thursdays. Thursdays can be rough.😅

Today's Pantry Moneysaver DIY. Schmaltz. 😋 It's the best cooking grease for pan-frying eggs and fowl, IMO, but it is pricey. I don't add the onion and it stays good in the fridge for ages. Chicken thighs with skin are cheap, easiest to skin before cooking, and so full of yummy fat. Duck is really nice for this too. I keep a bag of bits in the freezer until it's time to make a new batch.

Sun's out and the kitchen is hopping. Making bone broth, a batch of yogurt, and a bunch of meat snacks for the fridge. Stew beef chunks and meat balls this week. 😊 Very exciting stuff, as usual. 😅 #Saturday

I have a medical test scheduled the beginning of next month. I self-pay and today have received my estimate. With insurance - $3,663 Self-pay - $1,062 or with a 20% discount for pre-pay or pay day of it's $850

Happy Caturday nostriches! Whipping up a new batch of yogurt in the dehydrator and chores are done. The Ivation dehydrator has been a productive add to my tiny kitchen. Keeps me in dried lemons slices, veg prepped for soups etc., and a temperature controlled box to proof yogurt. Mine runs probably three times a week for one thing or another. Now it's time to work on the side-gig and play video games.😁 👾

Random book(s) of the day: Green Pharmacy by Barbara Griggs I hate picking up an old book and having the cover come right off. So I bought a book on book repair (Book Repair for Booksellers by Joyce Godsey), because I should have already had one. Fixed enough for now. Might use it to practice binding stitching later.

I'm annoyed all over again though. There are certain points in history that could have gone better. Both heroic and herbal medicine have their place, IMO, but human nature just couldn't allow that.🙄

This is the book that started me off reading slices of human history that weren't necessarily all about the wars and those who fought them.

There is always someone looking out for me...
