Pigs are happy to be outside.
So go outside and be happy.

You raise them.
Feed them.
Care for them.
And then you get this in return.
Unforgettable moments of joy and laughter.

Slaughter waste in a bin over the stream. Big hole in the top so the flies get in, small holes on the side so the maggots get out and drop into the water. Lets see if we can fatten some trout!

Correction:
Eight piglets was the final count. Thats the first time we’ve received piglets after the placenta came out.
Happy for the bonus piglets!

From new years it’s illegal to sell timber from breaking new ground for agricultural use in Norway.
The circular regenerative concept we have built for years, illegal.
This picture is from my neighbours land, where I keep it tidy in the exchange for the timber.
It used to be a beautiful grass meadow, and is now a spruce plantation in shambles.
Tree plantations on agricultural land aint any good.
But I guess the EU beaurocrats dont want to hear about it.
Tree good, cow bad.
Even if the tree dies and the cows would thrive.
We’re not stopping though.
It’s time to go hunting for grey zones and loopholes.
And make some Norwegian politicians answer for themselves.

I think I discovered the most ancient form of meditation.
Putting one stone on top of another.
Then one more.
And another one.
Until your body is tired and your mind is clear.

Looks like we’re about to have the first calf(s) of the season sometime in the next few days. All first time calving heifers. Exciting days ahead.

Sunny week in front.
Full steam ahead.

Spent most of the day in the forest.
Feel refreshed and ready for a new week.
Looks like we might have some calfs coming towards the end, so that will be exciting.

Expanding the grazing empire a little more.
We’re now finally all the way up to the remains of the old stone fence.
Next year we’ll keep going on💪

Pumpkin is an excellent homesteader crop.
Great way to utilize excess nutrients in the soil, produces a lot per area and stores very well throughout the year.
Ours have kept fresh in the basement since october and supplied us ~50 dinners this season, of course along with our own beef, pork or lamb.

GM. Bullish on the future.

The St. Josef catholic church in Einbeck, Germany.
I find it very fascinating that a small city of a few thousand people, would put aside resources to build such a great building in the 1800s.
Make building great again.

First trip out of Scandinavia since I started livestock farming to my girlfriends hometown.
And Einbeck in Germany takes low time preference to a whole new level.
This restaurant we ate at yesterday has been around for more than 650 years, and for good reason🤌

Sometimes it is best to let go.
(No this is not some motivational bullshit. I literally let the logs go, and winched them from the other side, so I wouldnt get stuck like I did 6 years ago).
Most of the time I hold tight and hope for the best.
