After years, :podfriend: Podfriend is finally available on Apple’s App Store!

For some reason, I seem to have submitted the ooooold screenshots 😂 so this is a nice nostalgic blast from the past.

I think I’m pretty much the only user of the app, which is funny because I built in a social platform on it too 😂 if anyone tries it, I would love feedback and feature requests!

Self promotion time!

I just released my first game on Steam!

Fuck the Ocean is a tongue-in-cheek incremental game about a man who gets his sock wet and decides all water has to go. You start with sand. Eventually there are gnome catapults and throwing trash in the sea.

Podfriend is now available in the Microsoft Store as a desktop application!

But the AI hate is sooooo strong. As a proof of concept I lately made a voice pack for an oooooooold game (it's more thna 30 years old). I personally find it super good, and I spent some time picking out the "voice actors" and generated it.

Some people LOVED it - but the anti AI crowd came out from the shadows. "AI SLOOWWWPPPP!", "Talentless!", "This sucks!" etc.

It's so weird, like, are they being forced to install this for their 30 year old game? Geez!

Thanks for another good episode!

I feel like AI is super divisive at the moment, and people are exagerating a lot. nostr:npub1rcnr0tt3mdzn0zkksz2pzhc39rxn90wmt5yqll2y7dgc73vre0asc2dw4h your "50% of LLM answers are hallucinations" is obviously wrong, or you're using like ChatGPT 3.5 still 😅

I 100% feel 10x'ed if not 100x'ed after AI. I probably fall in the same "creative" category as Adam. However, it's also obvious that AI is sooo bad at things like longer fiction (novels, podcasts, storylines etc.) and here we will need humans in the loop.

Erh.... I know I've been gone a while, but why are "The Podcast Standards Project" taking the credit for the transcript tags and video? 🤔

Question: For your SlobWorks scanner thingy.... Did I understand it correctly that you are generating a transcript per episode?

If so that could be very useful for podcast apps.

(But I am assuming you just grab X seconds of one episode?)

I would like to file a complaint that there is no Podcasting 2.0 show to listen to while I mow my lawn! If this tardiness do not cease at once, I will be forced to write in caps

Wuuiiiuuuu. Now on Web, Mac, Windows, iOS (well, the build is waiting to be approved) with seamless synchronization between all platforms. Listen on one platform and continue on the next.

(Also Carplay should work, but I haven't tested it in an actual car).

Uh, Podfriend Carplay almost ready.

Talks about God and beef milkshakes on Podcasting 2.0 is the most American thing I’ve experienced this week.

You mentioned a "flag for slop" is that live? Can I filter on that if I don't want any slop?)

FRIDAY BABY!

When I encounter an RSS feed with an episode that Podcast Index haven't yet picked up, what is the smartest/easiest/quickest way for my server to let the index know about it?

&

I could only listen on mobile (and it had a lot of bugs) but I managed to then actually fix a lot of bugs because of it - nostr:npub1rcnr0tt3mdzn0zkksz2pzhc39rxn90wmt5yqll2y7dgc73vre0asc2dw4h I didn't get to see the feed with your video - I hope you will do that again in the future, because I would love to test that - it's just that the episode typically falls right into family time on a Friday, so sometimes it's hard to plan!

I almost have a full ActivityPub client in Podfriend where you can follow actors outside of Podfriend. I might end up being the only user, but it's pretty cool!

Did you do anything special with "Job cuts at Spotify"? For some reason Podfriend got it as 52 milliseconds and no RSS duration. - It's a great case to actually work on my error handling :D But I am just trying to understand what happened here (since the episode seems fine now).

Fediverse meet Podfriend! (still very much a work in progress, and things break by the hour)

Also, I am developing the new Podfriend Client live (as in: running with scissors), so www.podfriend.com should have the newest (and very buggy) version, in case anyone wants to see what's coming. - It's based on the last version of Podfriend, but most of the code is completely overhauled. (also right now it only supports Google as authentication, because I haven't bothered making a new signup flow yet)

Testing ActivityPub comments both on page and in the player. It's not federating yet, but.... Soon!

I am trying to get Boosting & Streaming sats up and running in the new version of Podfriend, but... The ecosystem is weird now 😅 I tried Primal.net - but it gave me a lot of errors, and my wallet is just saying "Your primal wallet is not yet active"

So.... In the year 2026, what's the best way to get a wallet up and running and add money to it? Is the "plug and play" dream long gone?

Just a FYI, there's 2x episode 251 in the Podcasting 2.0 feed.

Small preview of the new Podfriend Desktop App.

Still adjusting a lot (especially around the theme that changes based on what podcast is playing and selected).

hmmm, I feel like AI slop is gaming the system. 😂

I guess the only way out of that is to make a manual blacklist and ban them?

Hey Kids! Putting the final touches on a new version of Podfriend for web and desktop!

But all my boost functionality in the earlier version stopped working and I have no idea what kind of features have been implemented in the spec over the last year :O What's cool these days and how do I get boosts working again?!

Starting coding a bit on Podfriend 3.0. Got some great ideas for it :D

I want to see if I can avoid having a dedicated server myself.

Did anyone ever easily solve the usecase of proxying podcast covers (to avoid loading a massive amount of 3000x3000 images etc.)?

I wonder what the Trump supporters are thinking about election rigging and the "deep state" now. Did the Deep State decide that Trump was easier to manipulate or were they just not "deep" enough to actually manipulate anything? 🤔

For 10 years I've been writing on and off on a sci-fi trilogy.

Definitely a big project, but a labor of love.

The first book is almost ready.

Don't get me wrong, there' still so much polishing to do, but it feels like it's getting close.

It's quite daunting!

I'll for sure be giving away some physical copies if anyone in the Podcasting 2.0 community is interested. Maybe it will even have a value for value release!

I am thinking of re-inventing Podfriend, not specifically as a player, because god knows there's enough of those. (I'll probably still keep the capability, at least on web, though).

But... What could a reimagined Podfriend look like? Nice podcast pages for podcasts? Tools for podcasts, like realtime polls, comments, whatever? Podcasting 2.0 widgets?

I'd like to start with something small and just build from there (since my kryptonite is always trying to build something huge 😂 )
