Every year, roughly 200,000 service members leave the military and are told to find a decent job, embrace civilian life and move on.
It almost never goes this smoothly. The reality is that veterans weren’t trained to merely occupy positions and perform tasks associated with a job description. We were trained to protect, build, lead and serve a mission larger than ourselves.
Generations of highly skilled, competent and effective individuals have struggled for years to just fit in and avoid making waves. We show up, shoot the shit with everyone else about sports, politics and whatever pointless distraction of the week may be capturing the attention of the general public.
But we know there’s more. We know there’s a whole world of conflict, oppression and very real threats to freedom our civilian counterparts will never understand no matter how much time they spend doom scrolling social media.
There is more to life than highly curated feeds shaping our reality while our data is sold to the highest bidder to guide our purchasing habits while garbage is streamed into our minds telling us which politicians or entertainers to worship or hate.
For many veterans unfortunately, this is it. They stuff down the greatest parts of themselves and put one foot in front of the other on the hamster wheel like everyone else while their light slowly dims and is replaced by the same nihilistic foggy existence everyone else is trudging through.
Some never escape this reality. Others spend their remaining years chasing a new mission by serving others, launching new businesses, creating pathways to a life of meaning and purpose. To those who accomplish this, we salute you. To the majority of veterans who are still seeking a new mission, this is for you.
Bitcoin and freedom technology represent the next frontier in the mission for human flourishing. They are changing who controls money, information, identity and human opportunity. This movement needs more than investors and influencers. It needs people who understand that freedom carries risk, sovereignty demands responsibility and security cannot be outsourced in exchange for convenience.
This mission is the most important one of the modern age. And it needs veterans to lead it.
America Does Not Have a Veteran Employment Problem
America spends massive amounts of resources preparing service members to lead in dangerous and uncertain environments. Then, when their service ends, we hand them a resume template, get them set up on LinkedIn and send them out to beg for a comfortable corporate job.
The truth is, veterans need more than employment. They need a mission.
A paycheck won’t replace purpose. A job isn’t going to replace a team you’d give your life for. Corporate slogans and recycled mission statements won’t replace meaningful service. Military transition programs typically focus on fitting veterans into the existing system instead of asking what they can help build or lead next.
Veterans didn’t spend years learning to lead under pressure, protecting critical assets, and accomplishing impossible missions to become slightly more disciplined middle managers.
The Next Mission is Already Here
Bitcoin is often introduced to people as an investment. That framing is far too small.
We must acknowledge the fact that in a very real way Bitcoin challenges the idea that individuals must ask permission to preserve, control, or transfer the value received in exchange for labor. Freedom technologies extend that challenge to include communication, identity, privacy, energy and access to information.
The moment we are experiencing is not another technology trend. We are in the beginning stages of a total shift in power.
· From permission to participation
· From institutional dependency to individual capability
· From blind trust to verification
· From centralized control to decentralized and resilient networks
· From passive consumption to ownership
Bitcoin is not asking veterans to believe in yet another institution. We already know (as the rest of the world is learning) that trust is not to be found there. Bitcoin is instead creating the opportunity to verify, take responsibility and expand our capability in a way that has not been possible until now.
Veterans Understand that Freedom Is Not Free
Many people talk about freedom as an abstract notion. Veterans understand it as a personal responsibility worth fighting for.
Freedom requires sacrifice and people who are willing to defend it, build systems to preserve it, recognize threats before they become dangerous, accept inconvenience in exchange for independence and embrace responsibility instead of outsourcing it.
Bitcoin demands the same. Self-custody means responsibility. Privacy requires discipline, Sovereignty demands competence. There is no help desk for personal freedom and no one is coming to save you.
Sovereignty isn’t a product you buy online. It’s a capability that is developed through determination, hard work and delayed gratification over immediate gain.
Bitcoin Does Not Need More Spectators
The Bitcoin ecosystem has enough commentary, “expert” price predictions, conference selfies, and people waiting for “number go up”.
What this movement needs are operators who know how to get shit done.
Veterans bring mission-first thinking, decentralized command and execution, calm under pressure, operational security (OPSEC), risk management, adaptability and accountability for outcomes.
We’re seeing veterans become Bitcoin educators, miners, builders, technicians, security professionals, entrepreneurs and community leaders. Most do not seek attention. Few will ever be known as influencers with a schtick blasting X for engagement with click bait and hot topic headlines. They’re too busy doing the damn work to play around on social media.
Security Cannot Remain an Afterthought
Over the past few months, the threat environment has changed. More Bitcoiners have experienced devastating loss, some their lives.
Bitcoin hodlers have endured kidnappings, home invasions, coercion, data leaks, social engineering and direct violence aimed at forcing access to their stacks. Violent wrench attacks are on the rise. The Bitcoin community must acknowledge security if much more than buying the right hardware wallet and building a seed phrase effectively.
Security must include:
· Digital security
· Physical security
· Operational security
· Personal privacy
· Family preparedness
· Travel awareness
· Custody architecture
· Emergency and inheritance planning
The veteran perspective is incomparably valuable in this regard. We understand that being part of the Bitcoin community makes you a high value target. Period.
If you publicly advertise your wealth, expose your family, reuse personal information, and depend on a single point of failure you do not have sovereignty. You have created a highly visible target of yourself. What happens next is inevitable given enough time and a window of opportunity.
Human Flourishing Requires Human Leadership
Technology alone will not save us. The Bitcoin protocol, as amazing as it is, will not protect you from the institutions, governments and individuals who will eventually come for your wealth, freedom and very life.
Bitcoin cannot create courage. AI is incapable of manufacturing character. Decentralized systems cannot replace leadership skills. These are all magnificent technological developments, but human flourishing requires people who can align them with service, responsibility and purpose.
Veterans can help ensure these technologies strengthen individuals instead of surveilling them, expand independence instead of centralizing control, serve communities instead of extracting from them and create freedom instead of a more sophisticated form of dependence and abdication of responsibility.
OPERATION BITCOIN is the New Rally Point
What is a Rally Point? In the military it is a designated location where people meet, regroup and reorganize to prepare for the next mission.
We’re building Bitcoin and freedom tech education for veterans, hands-on mining and technical training, career and entrepreneurship pathways and a network of veterans prepared to educate and lead others.
We are preparing and equipping veterans to participate in the most important transformation of our lifetime and to lead the world into the next age of human flourishing.
Veterans cannot stand on the sidelines while the future is being built and for those who feel the unending call to be part of a mission larger than themselves, you have found it.
Closing thought: The uniform came off but the obligation to serve did not. The world is rapidly moving into an era shaped by Bitcoin, artificial intelligence, decentralized networks, energy and digital sovereignty. These are tools that can expand human freedom or become new instruments of control.
The outcome is not predetermined. It will depend on who shows up to build, protect and lead. We know the freedom is never guaranteed, security is never finished and leadership is NEVER someone else’s responsibility.
The battlefield looks different and the tools have changed. The mission did not cease to exist, it evolved.
This is the new rally point. Get on the mission.
Help keep these ideas circulating
This is an independent project. If you'd like to help support it, you can make a contribution. But there's no obligation at all. Reading, sharing, and coming back is already a form of support.
