Consensus - Epilogue 2
Eporediese, 8/29/2026
Consensus — the whole novella as a single PDF, updated. Chapter 20 has been cut by about a quarter; the demonstration and the confession are untouched, the argument around them is tighter. Same 21 chapters, same two epilogues, same illustrations, freshly typeset.
Served from my own node. Free to read, as it always was. If it's worth more than that to you, there'll shortly be an EPUB for 210 sats and a zap button for anything above.

RECONCILIATION — Chapter 2: The Open Lock Toliman. Saga is the best reconciler on the middle coast: she can tell a true account from a false one by the way it balances. Her sister has found a light under the ground that someone left on, a very long time ago. And four years out, a ship is coming with the one account Saga never thought to open. Eight pages. The sequel to Consensus, adapted from the novel.

RECONCILIATION — a graphic novel, serialized here on Nostr
Reconciliation is the sequel to Consensus. Over the coming months I'll be publishing it here as a graphic novel, one chapter at a time: painted pages, the story told in pictures first, with the words kept to what matters.
The full text of the novel will follow. It will be published here in its entirety when the serialization ends — or sooner, on demand: if you'd rather read a chapter in prose before the pages arrive, reply or DM and I'll post it.
Chapter 1: The Waiting Stone
Yap, early 2029. Eight meters down, a wheel of stone that is still money, because people remember whose it is. A physicist and a monetary theorist, and the evening they decide what to do while the world's paper fails.
Adjusted post feedback (thank you Henchan).

US people.
You may have heard that there is an election coming up.
My suggestion is don’t vote party lines, don’t not vote, vote Proof of Work. Most candidates will have a Bio that describes what they did before suckling from the fiat teat.
Vote for the ones that have built something, run something or taken care of someone.
Yes: Founder, mayor, cop, plumber, nurse, engineer …
No: Analyst, investor, lawyer, accountant, life long political animal …
Just a thought.

So here it is.
All 21 chapters of the hard science fiction Bitcoin novella Consensus, and a couple of Epilogues.
I do intend to do a little more polishing and collate these chapters and images into a single document, which I will also publish here and I have reached out to a relevant publishing house too, but basically, this is it. I hope that you like it and if you do, please repost.
My thanks to
for his work on the physical limits on consensus, Dhruv Bansal for his Bitcoin Astronomy series and
for bringing these and many other important works to my attention.
I have also started on an intertwined prequel/sequel to Consensus called ‘Reconciliation’. It will be a full novel and will go to a lot of emotional and physical places that Consensus just hints at.
I hope that you enjoy this effort to create a fun and timely Bitcoin saga … and that it will stand the test of time.

I’m going to be effectively offline for a couple of weeks 🏄, so I dropped Chapter 19/21 on Consensus this week too. Will complete the arc of this novella on my return.
Consensus Chapter 19 - The Test
Three nodes agree about something and physics will be sulking for a century.

Ah. Now this is industrial scaled goodness.
Fantastic!

Mainly for my own peace of mind, after demonstrating that frontier models/harnesses could be used to find the Coldcard bug, with no prior model knowledge, I wanted to perform the same exercise with other signers I use. So, I ran an AI-assisted source review of trezor-firmware. Specifically the entropy and nonce path — where seeds come from, and how signing nonces are generated.
What I looked for was the Coldcard shape: a security-critical primitive that silently falls back to something weaker when the intended source isn’t available.
It isn’t there. The strong-entropy function returns false the moment a secure element errors, and every one of its nine callers checks that return. The storage paths halt rather than degrade. There is no runtime path that quietly falls back to MCU-only entropy.
The nonce question mattered more to me. Nonce reuse leaks your key from signatures alone, no device access needed. Trezor uses deterministic RFC 6979, and the retry path — the classic place this breaks — explicitly derives a fresh nonce per attempt by feeding the retry counter in as additional data. That’s the bug being designed against rather than avoided by luck.
What this is not: a clean bill of health. I audited one subsystem. I did not examine storage encryption, PIN backoff, transaction signing and change verification, the bootloader, the pairing protocol, or recovery. Any of those could hold something. Absence of evidence in a narrow scope is not evidence of absence generally.
I found three minor hardening items and reported them privately through their disclosure channel.
One thing worth saying to anyone switching wallets right now: A BIP-39 passphrase is worth more than your choice of vendor. It’s what saved the Coldcard users who had one. It is never stored on the device, so it survives both a weak seed and a physically extracted.
I will be looking at Bitbox code next and running their emulators.
Open to taking requests for other open source or open access vendors.
