Specter DIY v1.10.5 is out 👻
We’ve just released Specter DIY v1.10.5, and we strongly recommend updating your device.
This release focuses on security hardening and reliability improvements, including safer hardware-randomness handling, stricter change-output verification, restored mixed-wallet warnings, an update to embit v0.8.2, and fixes for reproducible builds.

Important: upgrade order for older devices
If your Specter DIY is running v1.9.0 or older, please do not jump directly to v1.10.5.
v1.9.0 or older → v1.10.3 → v1.10.5
Version v1.10.3 rotated the bootloader signing keys. Because v1.10.5 uses this new key set, older devices first need to install v1.10.3. Devices already running v1.10.3 can upgrade directly to v1.10.5.

Please be careful: fake Specter emails and newsletters
Recently, we became aware of fake Specter emails and fake Specter newsletters circulating as part of a broader scam campaign. Some of these messages may look convincing and may try to push users toward malicious downloads or fake Specter-related websites.
- Do not trust unsolicited Specter emails blindly.
- Do not download software from links inside suspicious emails.
- Only download Specter software from our official website or official GitHub releases.
- If something feels unusual, double-check through our official channels before clicking anything.

STM32 boards are sold out worldwide
The STM32F469 Discovery boards used for the current Specter DIY are currently sold out globally. At this point, we do not expect meaningful availability to return before 2027.
This is a broader supply issue with the underlying hardware, not simply a local stock problem.

Specter 2 is in development
We are actively working on the next generation of Specter, based on the ESP32-P4 platform.
We’re keeping this update short for now. When Specter 2 is ready, we will announce it here in this newsletter first.
Thank you for following Specter and for continuing to support open-source Bitcoin self-custody.
