Vonu: A Strategy for Self-Liberation

Vonu means reorganizing one’s life to reduce exposure to coercion. Rayo, the pseudonym of Tom Marshall, developed the approach that Shane Radliff introduces, surveys, and updates in Vonu: A Strategy for Self-Liberation. I recommend it to readers considering practical exit because its most useful question concerns what a proposed lifestyle requires to remain workable. Radliff’s own criterion is resistance to coercion. He stresses that suitability varies between individuals and changes as technology and historical circumstances alter the available options.

The book moves from philosophical foundations through possible lifestyles to later updates on international flexibility, digital privacy, and ethical enclaves. Its survey reaches beyond van living to wilderness arrangements and minimalist sailing, while also considering how people might pursue vonu within cities or stationary communities. That breadth makes it useful for comparing arrangements before committing to one. Its promises of liberation deserve scrutiny, but the practical dependencies developed in the selected sections give readers something concrete to examine.

Mobility changes the cost of leaving a location. A traveler can reconsider a base without committing indefinitely to one place; a vehicle dweller also changes the arrangement that supplies shelter. Radliff presents van nomadism as a way to reduce housing expenditure, then describes the preparations it demands. A van lacks a dwelling’s routine connection to electricity and running water. Its occupant must arrange power and hygiene within a small living space, while a breakdown can interrupt both transport and housing. His examples of gym showers and roadside assistance show how purchased services support the arrangement. Our reading is that mobility can reduce some commitments while increasing reliance on a functioning vehicle and accessible service providers.

Medical continuity makes that trade consequential. Radliff describes obtaining diabetes supplies as a major obstacle to his plans and discusses insurance and cross-border care as possible responses. These historical personal examples do not establish current costs or medical access. His registration comparisons likewise require checking against present legal conditions. For a reader with ongoing treatment needs, the feasibility of relocation depends on confirming that care will remain available.

Stationary communities change the calculation again. Radliff identifies property taxes and official intervention as exposures attached to fixed land, alongside the risk of losing invested capital. His proposed response includes a trusted proxy merchant who holds land and handles dealings with the state. Our analysis is that this arrangement shifts reliance to an intermediary; it does not establish independence from that person’s reliability or the land’s legal exposure. Distributed sites may offer continuity if one site fails. Radliff’s P.A.Z.NIA proposal combines geographically dispersed locations with vetted participants and encouraged pseudonyms. He founded and promotes the project, so his claim of near-guaranteed success remains an aspiration, not independently verified evidence.

Digital privacy extends the same inquiry beyond geography. Moving house leaves online disclosure routes intact. Radliff proposes changing devices and software together with browsing habits. Those choices require their own assessment of trust and maintenance: his endorsement of Jamin Biconik’s GhostSystem products supplies no audited current security evidence. His invocation of Bill Cooper’s claimed centuries-old plan is also unsubstantiated here and adds no necessary support to the practical analysis.

Radliff’s informal first-person, often polemical register mixes planning details with autobiographical conviction. Readers seeking a neutral handbook may find that mixture frustrating. I would read the selected sections as a starting point for comparing a mobile home with a stationary community, then examine the digital arrangements each would retain. Before committing, determine which obligations would disappear and whose continued cooperation the proposed life would require.
