I feel like we should start a movement to agree on the spelling of English words. I am collaborating in a document and so many words are flagged for me as spelling errors, or I feel might be, but are really just the UK variants or something.
If you went back in time to the 80s or further and wrote a story based on literal life in 2026...what does the book review say?

Which search engine do you prefer to use? For example, I use several, but I kind of have defaulted to ecosia for a while because I liked their whole idea and they were often good enough.
Today's random wish: Audio only for YouTube. The reason is that I often find videos of talks and things that I want to listen to. I'd love to do it while I walk, or while driving in the car, like a podcast... But lots of things make those improbable as video/normal YouTube
We have so many customizability features in software that will never be discovered by most people because it is so overwhelming a morass of settings and menus and things. Of all things, it strikes me that this is probably something we could use an intelligent (local and small) bot to improve. Have you seen anything doing this particularly well?

What do you think would be different if we'd landed E4X? Would it have changed anything about where we are? Would it be better or worse because of it?

In 2026, do you more often say "CSS Custom Properties" or do you say "CSS Variables"?

New blog post: What if we just...
What if a better answer to a question I've been struggling with for more than a decade is just... Way simpler? Sharing a potentially half-baked idea for discussion. Let me know what you think...
My friend and

Tell me a thing that you thought you wanted, and then got and now realize maybe it wasn't as useful or great as you imagined? Could be a standard, or just a thing you bought even...
I seem to have developed a kind of viceral reaction to "dunking" on stuff, whether I agree with it or not - but I also wonder how much I seem to do this without realizing it myself...

It's funny that we verb-ized and tensed "Google" for search generically - so you might say "hold on, googling..."
"hold on, yahooing" "hold on, binging" "hold on, ecosiaing"
Do those sound as natural to you? Is it just exposure?
Not asking for a critique, or why - but are you also on Bluesky?

New post: Micropayments History🪙
Hey, remember that period when there were a ton of online 'coins' that people are trying to make happen & big companies got involved & even talked about standardizing? Do you remember that time... in the mid to late 90s?

I was thinking today about how many of the action movies and even comics of my youth which were enjoyed by both sides of the political isle featured a super wealthy bad guy who was just greedy and petty and liked power... Sure, there were a few wildly wealthy heroes too, but they were also selfless. But it's weird, here we are in reality, it seems like now half the people think Lex Luthor is the hero

What do you use for creating/maintaining your blog? Is it custom or out of the box? Do you ever think about changing it?
I'd also love any replies you'd share about what you changed from/to and why!
