🇬🇧 They say you can't go through a halving without facing a tough moment. What happened was a tragedy. One of the most trusted devices on the market for Bitcoin self-custody had a firmware bug exploitable with the help of AI. The device suffered from an entropy flaw when generating private keys for wallets, leaving many honest people stripped of all their savings. I didn't lose any Bitcoin, but I lost all trust in the device and the company. For that reason, I decided to redefine the value of this device, turning it into a piece of art that marks this lesson in history.

🇵🇹 Dizem que não é possível completar um halving sem passar por algum mau momento. O que aconteceu foi uma tragédia. Um dos dispositivos mais confiáveis do mercado, para ter a custodia da própria bitcoin, tinha um bug no firmware explorável com ajuda de AI. O dispositivo tinha uma falha de entropia ao gerar a chave privada das carteiras. Muitas pessoas honestas ficarem sem todas as suas poupanças. Não perdi bitcoin, mas perdi a confiança no dispositivo e na empresa. Por esse motivo, decidi fazer algo para redefinir o valor deste dispositivo, em algo marque a lição na história através desta peça de arte.

A friend told me that we need to know how to lose. I understand that means to never carry self conflict and frustrations and move forward. I just don't want to see Bitcoin being captured by the same kind of people that captured gold. The ones moved by greed and corruption. People found hope and fairness in Bitcoin. If that dies, I don't know where we could find those.

Self custody is not dead. Coinkite is.

🇬🇧 On May 22nd, a seemingly simple moment is celebrated, one that ultimately became part of the history of a new digital era. An ordinary gesture was transformed into a symbol. A trivial exchange gained a meaning that was impossible to foresee at the time. In 2010, the first officially recorded commercial Bitcoin transaction took place. Two pizzas were purchased for $41 worth of Bitcoin. At the time, it was merely an experiment. An attempt to prove that this digital system could be used as money in the real world. Today, the value associated with that same transaction exceeds $769,000,000. A contrast almost impossible to comprehend on a human scale, yet one that transformed that day into one of the most emblematic moments in Bitcoin’s history.

🇬🇧 It felt appropriate to leave a taxidermied animal at the entrance of a hunting shop. It was interesting to watch people walk by, glance at the store window, and ignore the painting entirely. They all looked like tourists. In contrast, the person who noticed the painting at a glance ignored the shop’s existence and turns out wasn’t a tourist. In that moment, I immediately understood that the whole event made perfect sense. This bear market served as a reminder that Bitcoin’s volatility scares away the tourists. Volatility is what protects us from those who already have too much to accumulating even more. It is Satoshi’s gift to the faithful. Tourists only want to consume and go back home for comfort while we're all surviving. Bitcoin is not a place for tourists. It is a place where conviction is rewarded over the long term. It is a place for those who still have hope in the world we live in.

🇵🇹 Pareceu-me apropriado deixar um animal embalsamado na porta de uma loja de caça. Foi interessante de ver as pessoas a passar, a espreitar a montra da loja e a ignorar o quadro. Todas essas pareciam turistas. Ao contrário da pessoa que reparou no quadro de relance, ignorou a existência da loja e não era turista. De imediato percebi que este acontecimento fez todo o sentido. Este bear market serviu para relembrar que a volatilidade de Bitcoin espanta turistas. A volatilidade é o que nos salva de os que já têm muito, terem mais ainda. É um presente de Satoshi aos fieis. Os turistas só querem consumir e ir sair. Bitcoin não é um sítio para turistas. É um sítio onde a convicção é compensada a longo prazo. É um sítio para os que têm esperança no mundo em que vivemos.

The flower rests upon a pile of government-issued money. Money stained with blood all over the planet. It is not a mere dramatic effect, it is an accusation. Fiat money (from the Latin fiat lux, let there be light) was and continues to be an instrument of control, a mechanism that seizes savings, commands obedience, and finances wars. Made sense delivering this painting in a holy place, not to provoke, but quite the opposite. This is where I made piece with my conflicts against religion. 03 - "The Lighting Speed"

The disruptive speed of Lightning (network) will hit every major city. ₿ is inevitable.

I decided to make this little painting to bring with me on this short trip to London and spread the project out of Portugal borders.

This painting name is related to the name of the current most used 2nd layer for Bitcoin transactions. To give you context, nowadays a transaction on a traditional banking system can transfer money that takes 2 or 3 days to be settled. Then we have credit lines which are our 2nd layers and faster ways to make transactions and payments that will be settled by the bank later on their ledgers. On Bitcoin blockchain it’s similar. We can make a Bitcoin transfer OnChain that will take usually 10min to 1 day, or we can send smaller amounts via Lightning Network (2nd layer) that lands on the other side instantaneously.

After the previous explanation, it becomes more clear that the lightning on the painting is associated with this velocity hitting hard at the speed of light upon us. It means that no matter where you live or where you are, Bitcoin is able to reach you and everybody else at lightning speed. The tones gives us a feeling of an old city, to make a contrast with this advanced technology disrupting everything we know from the past.

I chose an icon in London to mark this important trip for personal reasons. The London Tower suits the purpose of the concept in a way that a bridge is a quick way to pass over the river to the other side. Like the Lightning Network, It’s a way to cross the bridge over all the censorship, permissions and control on our transactions from the banking system and the government. Hope you like it.

Here's the process that happens for all paintings I'll be delivering in the streets. It's interesting seeing someone that I don't know taking the time and energy spent on a painting. A painting made with love and conviction. That only happens when you realize that world only gets better if you live your life with compassion and kindness to all.

May I present you my first painting of the project. I will be leaving my original painting canvas in the streets of Portugal for anyone who wants to them home. There will be only 21 originals delivered in the streets. That is a message about scarcity and a reminder that only will be 21M bitcoin available in the world.
