And this is how harvesting honey before the farmer

upgrade. The element of danger made it very exciting and much harder work.

One of our core values on our farm is 'find a better way'. We can always do a little better and sometimes we can do a LOT better.

Farmer Tbone has been bringing in a bit more milk from our jersey Nina this week so I have been back into milk processing for the first time since having our baby. I have successfully turned all that milk into queso fresco, riccota, buttermilk, sweet whey, butter, yoghurt, sour cream, icecream, clabber, kifir, muscapone and heavy cream.

brings in all the dairy we need and I get to turn it into all the foods we like to eat. Thats a huge level up for our homestead and I'm taking all dairy items off our grocery list.. except the fancy cheeses because life without bree is not worth living 😂

The most difficult part of cooking silverside is remembering that Im planning to cook silverside in 3 days time.

Sourdough discard banana pancakes Recipe Combine: Some sourdough discard A banana or two Same number of eggs as bananas About that much salt Hit it with the stick blender Then add: Enough flour to give the consistency you want Cook: Preferably in burnt butter Makes: A few pancakes 🥞

Our very cute new baby. This is the first calf we have had that was both conceived and born on the farm. A significant milestone for us. #homesteading

Yes you can make mustard at home! Simply soak mustard seeds in vinegar or beer for 2 days at a 2:1 liquid to seeds ratio, add a little salt and hit it with the stick blender. Mustard greens are really easy to grow and as a bonus tbey act as a pest trap for the bug that like to eat broccoli and cabbage so for my southerm hemisphere friends its mustard planting time right now. Time to have a go at growing and making your own mustard. Ill be adding a little honey to this batch to sweeten it up a bit.

More than just the weed control. We added Chiva and MowMow onto the homestead over a year ago. They have been brilliant at managing weeds and maintaining their primary paddock. But so much more than that they seek out our company for pats, snacks and the occasional tethered walk around the property Nothing beats the soft nuzzles, bleated greetings, and the endless antics that turn a backyard into a comedy club. Feeling sad... Get a goat!!

As I'm settling into being a mum I have an overwhelming desire to mother at an executive level of skill and dedication. I just want to be the very best mum I can be. And every day I'm starting to suspect that motherhood is going to be a lifelong practice of letting go. I love my little guy so much and he is simply the best thing I've ever done and I want to be the best version of me for him.

Ill never get tired of hearing that 😍

There is a meal prep frenzy going on in my kitchen this week. I'm looking for your favorite rice and beans recipes. #asknostr

Wednesday is the 5th day of the week for me

Great to see those busy little beetles building soil for us!

It's new years eve and for the first time in years I have no resolutions. I feel settled, loved and that I have enough.

Duck season on the farm! #homesteading

More Than Just the Eggs While the eggs are the delicious payoff, the benefits don’t stop there. Keeping a small flock introduces you to the gentle rhythm of caring for animals. There’s a quiet satisfaction in letting them out in the morning, watching them explore, and collecting warm eggs from the nesting box. It’s a small connection to a more self-sufficient lifestyle, right in your own garden. #homesteading

Honestly these are the problems I'm glad we have.

My first go at honey fermented garlic 👩🏼‍🍳 If anyone has experience doing this let me know your tips!

Just discovered zapstore and it's given me that new phone feeling!

Bitchat wow. 🤯 I'm so impressed with how simple and clean this app is. I'm not particularly tech minded and usually have a bit of a learning curve with any new app or system but this is just so easy. Well done

and

When you are so broody that sitting on a nest isn't enough. This is the biggest excavation of a duck nest we've had so far. We think at least 8 eggs in there but she's gone full dragon mode now so we have to wait 28 days to see how many ducklings we get. I think she's going to be a great mum!

Does linking Nostr to Fountain have any risk of nsec exposure? #asknostr

The return on Bitcoin is not a number. It's the yield of quiet mornings, reclaimed time, and conversations that matter.

Understand that burnout is not a sign of success or ambition was one of my hardest lessons.

Four loads of branches to process today! The windy season corresponds with spring garden turn over time. Which means when we are busy cleaning up the paddocks of fallen branches we have the bonus of fresh mulch for the veggie beds. A bit of work for another resourse kept on our farm and within our carbon cycle.

This feels like winning. #homesteading #permaculture

#asknostr how do you cook silverside?

Alright Nostr friends I need some advice. We are at the tail end (pun intended) of our beef and all we have left is silverside. We have 2 weeks until our next cow goes in the freezer and until then need to eat this much unloved cut. Please help!! How do you make silverside enjoyable?? So far I've failed miserably and it comes out tough and sad even after slow cooking.

Anyone making supercharged compost?

I read about it yesterday so today combined my two compost piles with biochar to see what might happen. I had one pile of normal composting garden and vegie waste and the other was just animal bedding and manure. I'm excited to see what the outcome is and how quickly it might break down with all that mix of microbial life.

Anyway long way to ask the question... How do you compost at your place?

Clean water, clean air and clean food.

After a weekend in the city I notice the impact of all three of these things when we get home.
