The main difference between these and munitions, is logistics and fuel cost. I often joke about wanting a helicopter; but helicopters are much more difficult for a private individual to deal with. They’re an ugly lawn-ornament without a whole shit-ton of fuel.

But I can take a vanload of munitions to a shady warehouse down at the docks, and make tens of thousands no questions asked.

It’s virtually impossible to know what you might bring to the table two, five, ten or more years from now. Life has a strange knack of throwing many curve balls and windfalls you’d never guess; and typically works in our favor as often as not. Despair is almost never a reasonable conclusion to draw from present circumstances. My poor old Ikea bedframe is hilariously cobbled together after about nine years. Yesterday the steel spring-support bracket thing finally ripped off of the weird MDF-ish sideboard on one side; so I ripped a fir 2x4 in half, drilled five 3/8” bolt holes, and bolted it in place. It actually works better this way because it gives me a surface to brad-nail the bamboo-slat springs in place. Now there’s these visible T-nuts on the sideboard but honestly Idgaf. Works fine.

PSA: I’ve determined beyond reasonable doubt that refined avocado oil is perfectly serviceable as a stovetop popcorn oil. Apparently it has a very high smokepoint which lends itself well to this application. I typically pop it with an additional dollop of coconut oil, which imo is a quick and easy way to give it a movie-theater style flavor profile. It worked fine here as intended.

Treating everything as a pathology was a bit of a Faustian Deal. On the one hand, early-adopters had doors opened for them that often gave them a socially-sanctioned leg-up, improving their control over their lives’ trajectories. But eventually everybody being fucked up in one way or another became the new normal, ushering in an era of victim mentality and “intersectionality” (aka Oppression Olympics).
