📣Excited to announce, my relief carving, “The Great Wave Off Nakamoto” is joining the online Art gallery as part of Bitcoin Asia! 🌊

I carved this relief to capture the steadfast calm I feel as a Bitcoiner, no matter how turbulent the fiat storm.

Inspired by Hokusai’s iconic "The Great Wave off Kanagawa," this piece is my attempt to bring that famous wave to life through the rugged beauty of reclaimed slate. This particular stone is a joy to work with and has a beautiful blue-grey color.

Over the course of three months and using hammer and chisel, I shaped the stone’s surface to echo the layered textures of traditional woodblock printing, where each carved area—rough, smooth, or rippling—creates distinct shades in the slate.

These textures evoke a spectrum of colors that shift with the light, much like the vibrant energy of Hokusai’s original print.

For the guiding light of the Bitcoin moon, I used 24k gold leaf. The Bitcoin symbol is always present there, but it remains subtle and not easily seen from a distance.

Gold leaf also decorates the sail of the Ark as it rides the waves, in a nod to Knut Svanholm's well known Bitcoin meme, "Everything divided by 21 million." Like Bitcoin, this carving is my expression of hope and self-determination in the turbulent sea of fiat-derived instability that surrounds us.

This work is offered as a fixed price sale. It represents a great deal of time and effort on my part, and for the right collector, it is a statement piece I hope will inspire many great Bitcoin conversations for years to come.

And completely unrelated to why I make Bitcoin art.

I want my art to inspire conversations, to nudge people down the rabbit hole, to help people emancipate themselves from fiat slavery.

But art buyers don’t always think that way. And really it doesn’t matter. Because even if someone buys my art for reasons I don’t necessarily vibe with, the art will still hopefully have the desired effect.

Last couple of nights I’ve been experiencing something similar. Can’t fall sleep because new ideas pop into my head. Is the ornamentation I have planned right? Should I try something different? Can I do better? Perfection is the enemy of good and all that…

Vibe coding continues...

Currently working on UX improvements to the local network portal. Still looks like garbage, but I'm not having trouble accessing it anymore so that's a win.

Current goal is to work out all functional kinks and then I'll move on to aesthetics and improving the copy etc.

It's been over 90 degrees out the last few days, so stone carving is mostly on hold. Gonna get this code right, make sure the LED lighting effects do what I want them to, solder a more permanent version of the electronics etc... maybe fit in some stone carving at night when it cools off.

Playing with ideas… 🏛️⚒️₿

Project update:

I’m tentatively calling this endeavor “From the Temple of Satoshi” and I’m intending to incorporate Bitcoin reactive lighting effects into other projects going forward. I want to create ARTifacts from the lost (or yet to be built?) Temple of Satoshi.

So far I have a working prototype for my code and electronic components. After you connect to the local WiFi instance and save network credentials etc the LED begins to react to Bitcoin. Heartbeat pulsing every time a block is found for instance. 21 slow ceremonial pulses for each Halving. And other effects. Still need to iterate and improve the UX but it works.

This first stylized column sculpture is still in the works as well. I need to finish carving the embellishments and then connect the three pieces with a steel pin and epoxy. And I need to carve a niche for the electronics and mount the LED.

A lot left to do, but it’s coming along nicely. I’m still amazed I was able to use AI to guide me through the electronics and code. I started off using grok and then chat gpt but I’ve since moved on to using Claude for the coding. Anybody have any tips for vibe coding???

Don’t let fear of failure or a lack of knowledge prevent you from pursuing your goals.

If you have the will to show up and do the work, day after day, if you can overcome yourself, you can learn to carve stone, or achieve anything else.

The only thing holding you back is you.

I definitely need to play around with the code some more. The effects are a little too subtle right now. But

Going to transfer this setup over to a perma-proto board eventually, but I miss carving stone so I’ll work on the sculpture itself for a bit before I break out the soldering iron. Stay tuned!

“Depths of the Blockchain” is a multimedia sculpture made from resin and orange honeycomb calcite, standing just under 32 inches tall.

I used the Bitcoin logo as a canvas to evoke the mempool, blocks falling into place, and the vast ocean of freedom Bitcoin represents.

There will never be more than 21M BTC.

Carving continues… ⚒️🏛️₿

Ok this is freaking cool.

I used grok to write the code for this sculpture. Still waiting on hardware and lights, but all it took was a little troubleshooting and the code verifies.

Assuming it works as intended, this sculpture will:

-Pulse every time a block is found -Adjust brightness based on TX volume -2 pulses on ±5% hashrate change -3 quick flashes when the mempool is filling up -5 slow fades for a difficulty adjustment

And I've modified the WifiManager portal so it has a more "Bitcoin" aesthetic and explanations of the lighting effects.

I'll obviously test it and iterate a bit, but I'm pretty excited. Oh and I guess I have to finish carving and polishing the stone too....

Bit of progress today.

I spent an embarrassingly long time flattening the various edges so the three pieces would sit flush. After that, some shaping of the capital.

Tomorrow packing up sculptures for Vegas, so this piece gets to rest for a little while. The final design of the base and capital decorations is still coming together so it’ll be good to let those ideas percolate.
