I've finished stage 1 of my new #homelab install. (hardware/proxmox/storage). I just need to strip exif from the images (for anonymity) and I'll publish details.

For all the people who think that AI (in its current form) is going to take over the world, or at least take over human roles .. this is a great discussion

I have a long history in tech (can't say more without DOXing) and it's clear to me that AI has hit a wall with the current implementation method. The current architecture can't create anything new - it uses human created data as a basis for the new mixed output it creates. Don't use it for anything where details, facts or reasoning is required.
We're still going to have to rely on people, new content and new AI architectures to achieve the dream of AGI.

I've finalized the specs for my new homelab server. I've decided to go for a converged infrastructure initially. So we have:-
AMD EPYC 7452 CPU (32 cores, 64 threads) 512GB of ECC RAM 2 x 10/25 gbps fibre cards 1 x GPU (TBC) for plex transcoding 2 x PCIe NVME cards (4 x 4TB Samsung 990 pro drives) for VM storage 15 x 20TB disks in raid z2 (~260 TB or so usable space) LSI 16 drive HBA card
Most of the above has already arrived, just waiting on 5 of the disks.
The server will be running proxmox 9, with virtual truenas. To keep things stable and to ensure truenas gets access to disks for monitoring etc I'm going to be doing PCI passthrough of the LSI HBA and the 2 x PCI NVME cards. Additionally I'll be passing through one of the 10/25 gbps fibre cards to ensure that my storage has direct network access.
The virtual nas will provide the iSCSI/NFS/SMB storage out to the VM host and the rest of the network.
Once my last batch of HDDs arrives (~24 hours) I'll start the build. Going to document the process on nostr as we have a growing homelab interest based on messages I've received.
Anyway.. more to follow

My homelab gear has arrived in my country 😉 can't wait to get this lot built and installed. Went for a 32 core EPYC with 512GB ram. Going to get the 300TB of HDDs sorted this week and then once my NVME cards arrive i will get the VM pool sorted.
Build will probably be next week, complete with pictures and a writeup of course :)

Does anyone on here have good recommendations for anon domain registration and/or server hosting (physical or virtual). Ideally somewhere which takes bitcoin and doesn't ask for KYC, while being non shady.

Vibecoding is to coding .. what custodial is to self-custodial bitcoin wallets.

So
is there any other way to get the WOS app on android other than the play store ? it seems antithetical to your goals if so. I feel like you should show leadership and offer direct downloads and put it into other app stores (assuming you haven't already and I'm not blind)

Hey
I've been guilty of calling you a clown over this issue. I've watched this video and I wanted to apologize - i feel like you might have a genuine point. You've at the very least made me stop and think.

If we truly want to grow #Nostr, I think we all need to work at bringing more interesting people onboard.
Work on bringing the ~5 people you appreciate most from X or Bsky or other communities, it will widen the appeal of Nostr a lot, especially if they have interests beyond JUST bitcoin/privacy etc.
Working on selecting the HDDs and SSDs for my new home server. I underestimated how costly 300TB of good disk space is. This is going to hurt 😉

Specced up my new self-hosting/sovereign #Homelab server. It's going to be running proxmox and virtualized truenas via HBA passthrough. I'm going with :-
EPYC 7452 (32 cores / 64 threads )https://www.techpowerup.com/cpu-specs/epyc-7452.c2251 512 GB of ECC memory. 25 Gbps networking (multiple nics) (using sr-iov for high VM performance) 300TB of HDDs and about 10 TB of SSD 2 GPUs (one for plex and one for AI - both using passthrough)
I will be posting build pics once the hardware arrives but this will function as the brain for my new house and provide all services for the fam.

I used to have friends, a fair number of them. But when I was surrounded by some financial legal shit, they all scattered to the wind. Even after I emerged in the right, they were silent. My tribe is now tiny and I wish I could find people I could trust again.

Hey
you might want to take a look at Nostr as a social network. Look beyond the fact that the bitcoin community use it right now (as this tends to be a block for some) ... look at the fact you own the ID (pub/private key), it's censorship resistant and it supports bitcoin lightning micro transactions (vs likes) to express value appreciation.
it also goes beyond just social networking to marketplaces, boards, messaging, games and more.

I keep getting asked why I'm doing random zaps.
My reason is every new thing, be it a system or platform needs an initial injection of energy.
People willing to random zap value based on the value others deliver into #nostr is what will start the value2value engine - over time it will become self fulfilling.
One of the best parts about nostr is the lack of real discoverability. I mean this seriously! when i follow someone I generally go through their follow list to 1) find awesome people and 2) learn about the type of people they get value from.
There is a real nuance to #nostr which takes time to become obvious.
He's pretty funny - next level trolling. I'm a fan.

there really isn't a 1st class client for nostr in the apple ecosystem. How hard is it to have a client which works on iPhone and iPad (sized correctly) and you also allow that to run on M series macos devices. I'm seriously thinking about funding someone full time to create the client I want.
