this is really an important topic. i'll have to look into Carol Elliot's book, because i have been on a similar journey in embracing the "shadow."

for years i was ashamed of my kink and these insecurities led to unhealthy behavioral patterns in my relationship. i spun my wheels for awhile doing inner work—stuff like emotional processing, inner child work, journaling, the gym, etc. trying to address these behaviors, but none of those things were able to really get to the underlying issue: shame.

it wasn't until i learned to love and accept all of myself that i could begin my own healing journey and find my true purpose—to be a better husband, and by extension a better father.

maybe it was the combination of all of the work i've done, but i feel like the shadow work was something that made it all "click."
