Got me a second hand Thinkpad, from one of those businesses that renovates their computing park every 3/5 years.

It's a Thinkpad X13 Gen 3 (2023) with a Core i5 1245U, 16GB of RAM and 512GB SSD. It not only cost a fraction of what a new one would cost, it cost less than what people are asking for used desktop PCs because of the high prices of RAM and SSDs.

I'm mid travel and don't have time to organize my NixOS config for the laptop, so I'm running Bazzite right now, with fucking Gnome. Gnome actually looks like a great fit for a single screen setup, and for this kind of screen (it's a 13,3" screen in 16:10 layout, running in 1920x1200).

Holy fucking shit, X is a complete piece of shit. So, my niece's X account was hacked because she is a retard who uses the same password for everything despite me telling her not to, because it seems using a password manager is too hard for zoomers. Following simple instructions also seem to be too hare for them, because she asked me to solve it for her since following what was told to her in the email support sent was too hard.

OK, no problem. X has a very neat form you can use for when your account was compromised. I filled all the info and waited. They sent me an email telling me that the original email account was still linked to it, so I could just reset the password through the link they sent. Cool, let me do it. Well, the password reset system asked me twice for an auth code sent to the email to make sure I own the account. I provided it both times. Still, at the end it asked for the 2FA code. Her account didn't have a 2FA code. She was too stupid to use a password manager, she doesn't have the brain power required to enable 2FA. No problem. The support email had a helpful link where I could denounce a suspicious 2FA added to my account. I went there and filled the form with all the info. They sent me an email. To make real sure I own the account (despite all provided info), I just have to log in into X, so they can remove it.

Except I can't login, because the password was changed. No problem, I'll just reset the password. Well, it asks me the 2FA code to do it. Alright, let me ask them to remove the 2FA. They want me to login to do it.

OK, today I got kinda scared of AI because I experienced first hand something I thought was insanity until a few months ago.

See, I have a friend who works with music production. There is a specific kind of software these guys make use of that is a "splitter". It takes a track that was recorded all together and splits the different instruments and vocals and shit like that. This kind of software costs an arm and a leg, and until a couple years ago were kinda lackluster because it's pretty hard to isolate instruments in a track.

Well, this friend of mine asked my help because I have a subscription for Claude Pro, and he found a guy who vibe coded an app like that, using open weight models with permissive licensing to do this split. The guy distributes it as a 15 page pdf with the prompt that tells the LLM exactly what to build, how to test, and how to solve errors, and it has a Mac and a Windows version.

So I created a Windows VM, completely barebones, installed Claude Desktop in it (so it would have access to the Windows build environment it would need to compile this program), turned the 15 page pdf into a .md file cleaning up all the headers and shit, fed it to Claude Opus 5 and said "do your stuff, download anything you need".

It took almost two and a half hours. But besides clicking on buttons to give it permission to do stuff, or click on "next - next - next" on the Windows installers for the shit it needed, I didn't have to do absolutely anything. It programmed the thing, built it, tested it, debugged, solved all the issues it had, and at the end of the two and a half hours it gave me a folder with the program as a stand alone, just launch and use it.

Granted, it was not efficient. It consumed 100% of my "5 hour window" usage. It stumbled into stupid mistakes that it had to build and run the program before identifying them. Pretty sure that if I was using Claude API instead of my subscription it would have cost a fortune to build. I'm certain that someone with more experience coding would be able to build this thing little by little, giving Claude more precise instructions that would avoid the mistakes it had to correct all the time, and it would be way more efficient and fast.

Still, it's insane that someone with very little programming experience can just insert a huge ass prompt into a LLM and two and a half hours later with little to no interaction have a professional grade program that would otherwise cost a ton of money, and that works pretty well. He took a live recording of "Hotel California" by the Eagles and split it, and the results were amazing, especially considering it was a live recording.

And the actual splitting is also used by AI models, all of them open weight with permissive licenses that allow them to be used commercially. This is the kind of stuff that a few years ago you'd have to pay $200 to Apple for Apple Logic Pro, and now you can make for free.

So, apparently there is some sort of "revival" of the "indie web". Basically, static HTML pages, without social media bullshit, without ads, blocking AI crawlers and all that jazz. The idea looks pretty cool, and reminds me of the good old Geocities. In fact, one of the free sites people use for this is called Neocities.

Everything is, of course, very, very gay. Filled with troons, furries, and shitlibs in general. I mean, look at the fucking "Acceptable Usage Policy" in nekoweb.org, the site that looks a bit less gay than neocities. They literally make an exception for furry porn.

It is pretty obvious that one can't simply create a based site in these services. Making an "Welcome to Hyperborea" website with windmills of friendship everywhere is certainly a surefire way to have your account terminated before you can even refresh your page. Still, it's free. And I think it's a shame to just let furries and troons have all the cool stuff. So, I created a site in this shit, where I can post my schizo ramblings and all the bullshit I do, that way it won't just be lost in the fediverse void after the couple days people see it in the timeline have passed.

Could I have just created a .com website where I'm truly independent and can say "nigger" as much as I want? Probably. However this would require me to register a domain name, then get some hosting, then deal with all the bullshit to avoid crawlers and shit like that, which it seems these services already provide. This would cost money, and then either require me to doxx myself (usually through requiring documentation for registering, or getting my info when I'm paying through a credit card) or else jump through a lot of hoops to try and stay anonymous. Nekoweb is free (with limitations that I think I'll never reach), and to create an account all I had to do was to provide my anonymous email from an encrypted service.

Also, honestly, I don't really know how much leeway you have to be /ourguy/ in an open personal website without eventually getting raped by the government or some shitty ong that exists only to persecute us.

Things in general are pretty schizo, and I think I don't hate it.

Just realized that my Nixos config master branch in git was somehow renamed to main at some time.

Already changed it back. I refuse to say "BCE" and "CE" instead of "BC" and "AD", and I refuse to call a master branch "main".

Now I have managed to config llama-swap to change the model and unload it to RAM, so I can free the GPU for playing games while still keeping the bot semi functional and without losing the temporary context. She loses her "vision" capabilities, though, because I'm loading a way simpler model in place.

I set it up on shortcuts on my chink streamdeck clone, and even put native Noctalia notifications to tell me when it activates.

The % number in the top left corner is GPU VRAM usage. I have around 23% of VRAM being in use all the time, in part because it seems Niri+Noctalia use a bunch of VRAM to draw in 4 simultaneous displays (including a 4k one), plus web apps also use a lot of it, and I also have the live avatar running in my case monitor all the time (full animations still pending, for now I'm using some placeholders that don't work with the tails)

So I have finally installed 2 12 TB HDDs in my PC, to be able to hoard all the bullshit I had and give some breathing room to my 2TB NVMe disk that was already at 96% occupation.

Now I have 21.8 TiB of physical available space (which means about 10.9 TiB of actual available space, since I'm using RAID 1). It's pretty fun to see netdata graphs while I'm transferring data between the disks.

Incidentally, I found out that one of the reasons my disk was almost full was because I have an over 500 GiB folder filled with cosplayer whores showing their pussies.

I thought this game was some sort of anime Minecraft, but I'm playing as a cute barefeet kung fu little girl who kicks monsters around and can choose between different classes to wreak havoc.

Today is a very sad day.

The church in my hometown, one of the oldest Gothic-style churches in the country, built in 1904, caught on fire. A lot of history was lost today. The altar came from Italy, and the church had beautiful classical paintings of all the steps in the Passion of Christ on the walls around. But, more importantly, it had a lot of stuff made here. Stained glass windows made by the Italian immigrants who colonized the region. Registry books with the names of the people who got wed, and the babies baptized there. Small snippets telling the story of the people who built not only the city, but the whole region.

No idea what could be saved yet.

The only silverlining is knowing that it was an accident, and not a criminal fire. We don't have jews or muslims torching churches around here.
