📢 The renovation works at our daycare center Hogar Germán Frers in Baradero, Argentina have been successfully completed. Throughout the entire construction period, the daycare center remained open and continued its activities as usual.

ℹ️ The renovation included the replacement of the roof, the installation of a new drainage system for the walkways, the renewal of the walkways, the replacement of windows and doors and the installation of a photovoltaic system.

➡️ The daycare center can now continue its work under significantly improved conditions, while remaining a safe place for learning, connection, and development for children from socially disadvantaged families.

❤️ We are very pleased with the successful completion of the project and would like to thank our donors and our local project partners for their support!

Different contexts, common aspirations!

The motto of today's International Youth Day captures how young people around the world face very different challenges depending on where they live: poverty, limited access to education, the impacts of climate change, geographical isolation, and many more.

Yet what unites young people are the aspirations they share across countries and continents. Young people strive for dignity, opportunities, meaningful participation, decent work, quality education and a sustainable future.

Through our projects, Kinderhilfswerk Eine Welt e.V. supports these aspirations and helps create opportunities for young people to thrive.

Fresh from the tree: At one of our daycare centres in Argentina, a young girl picks a lemon from the centre's own garden.

Healthy nutrition is an important part of our work. Together with their caregivers, the children grow fruits and vegetables while learning where food comes from and why a balanced diet is essential for their healthy development.

The garden is more than just a place to grow food – it's a hands-on learning environment where children develop new skills, take on responsibility, and build healthy habits that can last a lifetime.

YOUNG ACTIVISM | Meet Irene Irere Irene Irere is a young activist from Musanze, Rwanda, dedicated to advancing gender equality and tackling gender-based discrimination and violence.

As part of a youth initiative, she empowers young people to shape their own futures. Through entrepreneurship training, mentoring, access to finance, family planning, and reproductive health services, they gain the knowledge and opportunities to build independent lives.

Irene is especially passionate about empowering girls and women. Her goal is to reduce teenage pregnancy in her community and strengthen women's rights through education, awareness, and opportunity.

Her story is a powerful reminder of the impact one person can make. By creating opportunities for young people, Irene is helping build a more equal future and inspiring others to become agents of change.

🚐 8% achieved: Every child deserves a safe journey to school!

The AGRU Academy in Cape Town provides education to currently 94 children from refugee and vulnerable families. Many parents no longer feel safe sending their children on public transport due to rising xenophobic tensions.

We're raising €11,000 to buy a dedicated school bus so these children can return to school safely after the holidays.

Image of the month: Good health starts from the very beginning. 💚

This month’s image takes us to a health centre in Mali, supported by Kinderhilfswerk Eine Welt, where a mother and her child receive essential healthcare.

From their very first months of life, children receive regular medical care and support. Routine check-ups, vaccinations, and monitoring of their growth and development help prevent illness and give children the healthiest possible start in life. For many families, health centres like this are an essential source of care, and play a vital role in helping children grow up healthy.

A football, a basketball court and a safe place to play can change childhood. At our childcare centres in Argentina, sport is much more than exercise. Through movement, children build confidence, develop motor skills, learn teamwork and experience moments of joy that every child deserves. For many of these children, these activities provide not only health benefits, but friendship, belonging and the freedom to simply be a kid.

This is what real impact looks like when support reaches communities directly.

Every zap helps create opportunities like these.

PROJECT LAUNCH – The construction of a new school has begun in the village of Shirkot in Nepal. What makes this project especially meaningful is the active involvement of the local community. In the photos, women and men from the village can be seen working together and supporting the construction. This commitment is an essential part of our work. Sustainable development happens when people are able to contribute their own ideas, experiences, and skills. The new school will provide improved learning conditions for children and offer them a place where they can learn, grow, and shape their future. We look forward to sharing the next steps of this project with you.

Our projects in Nepal place a strong emphasis on capacity building. In many regions, access to health information during pregnancy and childbirth is not always guaranteed – making it all the more important to address this gap directly. Through our safe motherhood workshops, we provide women with essential knowledge on pregnancy, childbirth, nutrition, and health. In doing so, we strengthen their confidence and agency, and enable them to make informed decisions for themselves and their families. This contributes to the long-term improvement of maternal and child health.

WOMEN’S HEALTH

On Women’s Health Day, we are turning our attention to the millions of women and girls around the world whose access to healthcare, education, and self-determination is still limited.

At Kinderhilfswerk Eine Welt, we implement projects in Mali where health centers are built and become safe spaces where women and mothers not only receive medical care, but are also educated about contraception, pregnancy, and the prevention of female genital mutilation (FGM).

🤝 We stand with them, for lives of health, dignity, and self-determination.

What sounds like a meme marked a turning point in financial history. 🍕 On 22 May 2010, Bitcoin was used for the first time to make a real-world purchase: two pizzas for 10,000 BTC. What is known as ‘Bitcoin Pizza Day’ now symbolises the dawn of a new digital monetary system. But Bitcoin has long been more than just a speculative asset. Particularly in an international context, the technology raises fascinating questions: How can value be transferred globally – without high fees, long waiting times or heavy reliance on banks and intermediary structures? This is precisely why Kinderhilfswerk Eine Welt is also exploring Bitcoin and has been accepting Bitcoin donations since last year. In development cooperation, issues such as inflation, limited access to financial systems or high transaction costs are often real challenges. New technologies can create opportunities here – for faster, more direct and more transparent support. 🌍 We believe: anyone talking about the future of money should also talk about how financial innovation can have a social impact. #BitcoinForGood #BitcoinDE #Germany #PizzaDay#Charity #ZapForKids #EducationWithBitcoin #HealthWithBitcoin #DonateWithSats

At the U.M.AV. Institute (Union Malienne des Aveugles) for people with visual impairments in Bamako, the capital of Mali, blind and sighted children learn together under one roof.

➡️ Here, inclusion is not only promoted, but truly lived — through shared lessons, mutual support, and an atmosphere of respect and openness.

ℹ️ Since 1994, we have been supporting the U.M.AV. Institute and its associated boarding school and workshops for the blind. This enables students to learn practical skills in the chalk workshop — which helps supply the entire country — as well as in the institute’s own weaving workshop. Part of the running costs is covered through the sale of their products.

❗ However, the U.M.AV. Institute for the Blind urgently depends on long-term donations.

Women's health is crucial for the future of children, and thus for the development of entire communities. However, in many regions of the world, mothers have limited access to medical care, education, or safe obstetric care. This means high risks during pregnancy and childbirth, preventable diseases, and often a cycle of poverty and disadvantage.

That's why we are committed not only to children's rights, but also to the health and empowerment of women. Because only when mothers are healthy, children can grow up healthy. Healthy, educated, and self-determined women pass on their strength to their children, their families, and their communities. Health and equality are the foundation for a more just world, and that starts with mothers.

Children's rights are moving forward in Ecuador. ✨ 📚 Fewer children are being forced into labor. That's clear evidence that education, awareness, and family support are making a difference. Yet poverty and unequal opportunities still push too many children to trade school for work. That’s why sustained commitment to education and protection for every child matters more than ever. 🎉 One week ago, we had the opportunity to exhibit our very special anniversary project, the KHW anniversary book, at THE YARD Gallery in Hamburg. 📚In collaboration with copywriters and students from HAW Hamburg, something very special has been created. Thank you to everyone involved for this fantastic work! Here are a few impressions from our event. ➡️Find out more about our anniversary book here: https://khw-eine-welt.de/khw-jubilaeumsbuch/

What started as just a few planting beds is now creating real change in Mahatinikhola, Nepal. Together with our partner organization Shanti Griha, children, parents, and teachers have built an “edible school garden”, a place to learn, grow, and share.

Today, the children are not only cultivating vegetables, fruits, and legumes; they’re also discovering what a balanced diet looks like, and why responsibility and teamwork matter. 🥕🍅🍋

The harvest now enriches school meals, improves children’s nutrition, and helps carry knowledge back into their families. A project that’s truly bearing fruit for a healthier future and stronger village communities. 💚

Clean hands, healthy futures. 🙌

💧 As part of our WASH project (water, sanitation, and hygiene) in the village of Kolar, Nepal, children from our partner organization Shanti Griha Nepal learn why hygiene matters, and how to wash their hands correctly.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 These simple but vital routines help prevent diseases and strengthen awareness of health and cleanliness in schools, in families, and across the whole community.

Homemade simply tastes better. 🍝✨

At our daycare project in Argentina, children and young people discover how much fun healthy food can be and how empowering it is to get involved themselves. Cooking together builds community, strengthens self-confidence, and brings a little more joy into everyday life. 💪🌎

One of our working students recently joined a session and had the chance to cook side by side with the children, an experience she won’t forget.

Zap to support this kind of project in Argentina, Ecuador, Mali, Nepal, Rwanda and South Africa.

First things first: thank you to everyone who visited our exhibition last weekend and/or sent a zap. Our team is truly grateful for this special chance to meet, connect, and exchange offline.

If you’d like to receive our anniversary book in recognition of your support (zaps of 330,000 sats or more, or fiat donations of €250 or more), please get in touch.

And now, an update from Argentina: we support two daycare centers in Buenos Aires that care for 150+ children and young people, as well as their families. In times of social and political instability, a stable routine, healthy meals, and meaningful leisure activities are far from guaranteed for many children and teens in the city’s informal settlements.

That’s where this project comes in. At these centers, children and young people receive consistent care and attention. This helps build security, belonging, and self-confidence. Thanks to your support, we were once again able to bring real joy to the children in 2025. 💫

Today, we got a christmas recipe for you from our project team in Argentina! Pan Dulce is a real highlight of the christmas season in Argentina and many other Latin American countries. This sweet, moist yeast cake, also known as “panettone,” is traditionally enjoyed during advent and is an integral part of family celebrations.

Here's the recipe for you: Ingredients: • 500g flour • 100g sugar • 10g dry yeast • 1 teaspoon cinnamon • 1 pinch of salt • 250ml (plant-based) milk • 50g margarine • 100g dried fruit (raisins, apricots, dates) • 50g nuts (almonds, walnuts, cashews) • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Preparation:

1. Mix the yeast, sugar, and lukewarm milk in a bowl and let rest for 10 minutes until the mixture foams.
2. Mix the flour, cinnamon, and salt in a large bowl, add the yeast mixture and melted margarine, and knead into a smooth dough.
3. Let the dough rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours until it has doubled in size.
4. Roughly chop the dried fruit and nuts and knead into the dough.
5. Place the dough in a greased or parchment-lined pan and let rise for another 30 minutes.
6. Bake at 180°C for approx. 35-40 minutes until the pan dulce is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.

✨ The result? A wonderfully fluffy and fruity-sweet pan dulce that is guaranteed to warm hearts! 💚

If you try the recipe, please send us some photos with your pan dulce!

In March, our KHW project manager travelled to Mali to visit our health and education projects. Meeting the children, talking to parents and local staff, and seeing the changes on the ground, especially the kids’ smiles, was a powerful reminder of why we do this.

These visits matter. Sitting together with our local partners, we can speak openly, ask questions, and build real trust. Face to face is where true cultural understanding grows, and that’s the best way to make sure we’re responding to actual needs in Mali and in our other project countries.

Finally, our on-site visits also help us monitor the projects better: we see what’s working, what’s not, and can catch problems early instead of reading about them in a report months later.

Have you got any questions about our projects in Mali?

Our children in Argentina are once again rehearsing their annual Christmas play at the Hogar Germán Frers daycare center. After weeks of practice and festive decorating, they’ll perform the traditional story in front of many familiar faces. Our picture of the month comes directly from our project in Ecuador again: the PADE day center. During christmas time, they do not only crafts, sing, and laugh together at PADE; the center also fulfills heartfelt wishes for the children. The boy in the photo is holding his christmas gift, which he received from a sponsor. For many children in our projects, christmas is a very special moment: they feel that they are seen and cared for. This picture of the month is thus a symbol of hope and solidarity. ❤️

🇪🇨⚡ In one of Quito’s poorest neighbourhoods, PADE (Para dar esperanza, meaning “to give hope”) runs an after-school centre where kids come after class instead of being on the streets: they get homework support, a safe place to just be children, and for many it’s the only warm meal of their day. Beyond food and schoolwork, the children get emotional support, creative workshops and time with teachers and a psychologist. Parents are included in trainings so home becomes safer and more stable too. A small local team has been there for more than ten years and knows the families by name.

If you want your Bitcoin to touch real lives: Support the kids at PADE with your Sats – quick, direct, and on the ground in Ecuador. Your Sats help pay for meals, school supplies, hygiene items and the local staff who hold this space together. ⚡

🇲🇱 Mali still has one of the world’s highest infant mortality rates. Too many children don’t reach their first birthday - but the trend is improving. Thanks to expanded vaccination, maternal care, clean water, and community health programs, child deaths have fallen significantly in recent years. Evidence-based, community-led development saves lives - and continued support accelerates the decline.
