LNBits: Sell Bitcoin OTC or refund in seconds

Picture this: you’re running a small stand at a local event, or maybe selling some merch after a concert. Accepting Bitcoin payments is smooth and instant with your TPoS. But then it happens - someone comes back and says they need a refund. Or maybe a friend simply wants to buy some sats directly from you. In the past, that’s where things got complicated. How do you give Bitcoin back in a simple, secure way, without fumbling around with apps or long explanations?

That’s exactly the burden the OTC ATM Mode in LNbits TPoS solves. Your TPoS can now sell Bitcoin on the spot, turning your point of sale into a mini ATM - perfect for quick trades, casual sales, or even instant refunds.

The gain to sell Bitcoin directly through your Point of Sale. We like to call it the OTC ATM.

How to enable OTC ATM

Setting up OTC ATM Mode on your TPoS is surprisingly simple.

First, create a new TPoS (LNBits TPoS extension) or edit an existing one. In the options, you’ll now see a tick box: Enable selling bitcoin. Toggle it on, and you’ll unlock a few settings:

• Maximum withdrawal per day – set a safe cap to control outflows.
• Cooldown period – avoid abuse by defining a minimum time between withdrawals (1 minute or more).
• Withdraw premium - Means you can sell Bitcoin and keep some percentage as a "fee".

Now, when you open your TPoS, you’ll see a new button: ATM.

Tap it, and you’re in ATM mode - indicated by a red centered Button. Tap it to exit the OTC ATM Mode.

Selling Bitcoin Step by Step

1. Tap the ATM button.
2. Enter the amount you want to sell.
3. Confirm, and your TPoS will display an LNURLw QR code.

The buyer simply scans it with their Lightning wallet, and within seconds, sats are withdrawn. You’ll see the familiar green check ✅ once it’s done.

Why This is Cool

For a business owner, flexibility and ease of use is everything. Mistakes happen, refunds are sometimes necessary, and customers expect them to be quick and painless. With TPoS OTC ATM, you don’t need to open another wallet app or explain Bitcoin details - you simply tap a button, set the amount, and hand back the sats instantly.

And for individuals, it’s a game-changer. Your TPoS doubles as a pocket-sized ATM you carry anywhere. Want to swap a few sats with a friend? Help someone dip their toes into Bitcoin for the first time? Or just free up some fiat when you need it? All of that is now just a scan away.

It’s this two-way flow — always in your hands — which makes the new feature exciting: it brings Bitcoin closer to everyday life, turning refunds, sales, and swaps into something as natural as accepting a payment in the first place.

OTC ATM requires a signed-in account. When sharing a TPoS, be signed in or have the login details ready.
