In the early morning hours EST of June 15, 2011, Wikileaks turned to #bitcoin as a lifeline for receiving donations. This was a strategic move to counteract a politically motivated banking blockade crafted by leading banks and payment service providers under the influence of the U.S.
The attack has destroyed 95% of the organisation’s revenue, and if it wasn’t for #Bitcoin, Wikileaks might have ceased to exist.

Bitmain’s S19 Mining Rigs Dominate Bitcoin Network’s Hashrate
A new study published by Coin Metrics introduces a novel way to analyze Bitcoin mining, allowing researchers to identify specific mining rigs contributing to the network's hashrate and evaluate their energy usage and efficiency.
This research has shown that Bitmain's Antminer models, especially the S19 series, hold a majority share of the Bitcoin network's hashrate. The study also allows for an evaluation of network efficiency and a comparison to competitor positions, concluding that the current network composition is incredibly efficient.
Additionally, the study found Bitcoin's energy consumption to be around 16% less than Cambridge University's Centre for Alternative Finance and Digiconomist's estimates.
